What is a menu modifier? (Add-ons and options)

AppZet team3 min readLast updated 5 October 2026

Modifier groups

Options are kept in groups, like "Spice level" (mild, medium, hot) or "Extras" (cheese, egg). One group can be used on many dishes.

Required or optional

A required group must be answered, like choosing a base for a pizza. An optional group, like extras, can be skipped. Some groups allow more than one choice.

Why it helps

Modifiers keep your menu short: one "Masala Dosa" with options instead of ten separate dishes, and the extra charges are never missed on the bill.

How AppZet Billing handles it
  • Modifier groups have options with an extra price, or 0 for free ones.
  • Each group can be Required, and can Allow several choices.
  • Switch an option off while it is sold out.
