GST on restaurant bills: what owners should know

AppZet team4 min readLast updated 5 October 2026

What a GST bill shows

Your business name and address, your GSTIN, a bill number, the date, each item, the taxable amount, the tax rate and the CGST and SGST amounts, and the total.

Which rate applies

Many restaurants charge 5% without input tax credit. Some, such as restaurants in certain hotels, may charge a different rate. Rates and rules change, so check yours with a tax professional.

Keeping records

Each bill needs a unique number, and your sales and tax collected must match your GST returns. Billing software that keeps every bill and gives a tax report makes filing much easier.

How AppZet Billing handles it
  • Add your GST rates or a CGST + SGST group and turn on GST on sale.
  • Your VAT/GST number from General settings prints on every bill.
  • Every sale, including online store orders, gets a bill number and GST.
  • The GST report shows the tax collected for any period, with PDF, CSV and Excel download.
